How to find your trash and recycling pickup day

Wildwood doesn’t have one pickup day for the whole city; each hauler runs routes on different days.

  1. Find your hauler on the waste hauler map.
  2. Republic Services customers: sign in to your Republic Services online account to see upcoming pickup dates, get alerts, and use Track My Truck on collection day. You’ll need the account number from the top right of your invoice.
  3. Gateway Disposal customers: call 314-900-2070 or sign up for service with Gateway online.

Trash and recycling are both collected every week.

How much does trash service cost?

Monthly rates, effective August 1:

Service Republic Services Gateway Disposal
Trash & recycling $35.92 $46.98
Trash & recycling, senior rate $30.53 $39.93
Yard waste (optional) $21.15 $11.75
Yard waste, senior rate $17.98 $9.99

Senior discount: residents 65 and older in a household of two or fewer people get 15% off, yard waste included. Bring proof of age (a driver’s license or birth certificate) to Wildwood City Hall, or call 636-458-0440, and the city will notify your hauler.

What’s included

  • One 95-gallon trash cart
  • One 65-gallon recycling cart
  • Weekly trash and recycling pickup

When to put your carts out

  • At the curb by 6:30 a.m. on pickup day
  • No more than 12 hours before pickup
  • Back in by midnight
  • Stored out of view from the street between pickups

Yard waste pickup

Yard waste is an optional add-on (see rates above). It includes:

  • Up to 10 items a week: bags or bundles, each under 60 pounds
  • Compostable bags, clearly labeled carts, or your own containers (under 35 gallons, with handles)
  • Branches bundled no longer than 4 feet and no thicker than 6 inches

Items beyond the weekly limit may cost extra. Don’t mix yard waste with trash; haulers won’t take it.

Bulk items and appliances

Bulk items (furniture, bicycles, anything too big for the cart or that can’t be bundled into 4-foot lengths) need to be scheduled with your hauler in advance:

  • Republic Services: up to two items free on your last trash day of the month. Call 636-947-5959. Pickups outside your free day cost extra.
  • Gateway Disposal: one item free on the third pickup of the month. Call 314-900-2070. Additional items, or anything over 60 pounds, are $20 each.

Appliances are picked up separately for a fee: $36.60 each with Republic, $30.00 with Gateway. Call your hauler to schedule; refrigerators have extra requirements.

For construction or remodeling debris and carpet, call your hauler for pricing.

Holiday and weather delays

If your pickup day falls on or after one of these holidays, your pickup is delayed by one day:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

In snow and ice, pickups can be delayed until streets are safe. Private streets have to be plowed and salted before trucks can come through. Missed pickups are usually made up on your next regular day.

Recycling: what goes in the cart

Wildwood uses single-stream recycling, so everything recyclable, glass included, goes in the one recycling cart.

  • Put items in loose, never in plastic bags
  • Make sure they’re empty, clean, and dry
  • Break down cardboard boxes

For hard-to-recycle items, Earthbound Recycling in nearby Eureka takes drop-offs. The recycling dumpster that used to be at Anniversary Park has been removed because of illegal dumping.

What haulers won’t take

Missed pickup?

If your carts were out on time and weren’t emptied, call your hauler first; most missed pickups are fixed the next business day. You can also report a missed pickup to the city, or call City Hall at 636-458-0440 for help.

Service history

When this guide was first written in December 2020, all of Wildwood was served by Waste Connections, which had taken over trash and recycling in the summer of 2019. Meridian is another former provider; the city still gets requests to haul away its old carts. The city has since moved to its current split between Republic Services and Gateway Disposal. If you still have an old Waste Connections or Meridian cart, see the FAQ below for how to get it hauled away.

Haulers won't collect hazardous waste or electronics. Use the St. Louis area Household Hazardous Waste program for chemicals, paint, and batteries, and St. Louis County's electronics recycling information for e-waste.
